PRESS STATEMENT
The Indian Action Committee (IAC) welcomes the visit to Guyana by the Secretary of State of the United States of America, Mr. Mike Pompeo.
The IAC believes that his visit not only assists in raising Guyana’s international profile but as a significant endorsement of the prevailing of democracy following the March 02, General and Regional Elections.
The events that unfolded following the said elections and which lasted for five months, not only threatened our hard-fought democracy but brought unnecessary suffering to our people and negatively impacted the country’s image.
The IAC is cognizant that had it not been for the valiant efforts of the then People’s Progressive Party Civic Opposition, the majority of the Guyanese people through various civil society organizations, the Diplomatic Corps and Regional and international stakeholders, our democracy could have been strangled.
Integral to helping to preserve our democracy was the sustained effort and support of the Government of the United States and its Secretary of State, Mr. Pompeo.
The IAC, therefore, wishes to take this opportunity to thank Secretary Pompeo, the Government of the United States and its Ambassador to Guyana, H.E. Sarah-Ann Lynch, for their invaluable support to Guyana and Guyanese during the time of need.
The IAC is confident that Secretary Pompeo’s visit will further strengthen relations between Guyana and the United States and which will further benefit all Guyanese.
