ERC needed to address perception of marginalization by the Indo-Guyanese community

The Indian Action Committee (IAC) has taken note of the ongoing exchanges regarding statements made by the Leader of the Opposition on the plight and concern of the Indo- Guyanese population as it relate to policies and action of the APNU/AFC government.

The IAC also notes the response of the Prime Minister.

The perception of marginalization/ discrimination by the Indo- Guyanese community or any other group should not be ignored but rather be addressed in a constructive way. One such mechanism is the Ethnic Relations commission (ERC)

The IAC is unable to find any logical reason as to why the ERC is not functioning at the present time and calls on the government to restore the ERC which is a requirement of the constitution of Guyana.

A perception of marginalization and discrimination held by members of the Indo-Guyanese community cannot be ignored and must be addressed urgently.
